Worthington Industries Uses Steelcrest Precision for Prototype to Production

Steelcrest Precision helps a global metals manufacturer quickly and efficiently produce parts for a new product launch.

As a precision machining partner with prototype-to-production capabilities, Steelcrest Precision delivers quicker production times, shorter lead times, and faster product improvements.

Here’s how we worked as a single-source partner for Worthington Industries to manage a project for a new business segment all the way from prototyping of parts to production at scale.

The Challenge

Worthington Industries is a globally diversified metals manufacturing company based in Columbus, Ohio. It’s a publicly traded company (NYSE: WOR) with 51 facilities and 7,500 employees.

With deadlines to meet for a product launch, Worthington Industries wanted a consultative partner that could:

  • Get started right away
  • Adhere to their branding requirements
  • Manage the process from prototype to production

The Solution

After discussing Worthington’s needs, we started with a prototype part to test for fit and functionality. Our team made modifications as requested – for example, changing an angle to put a probe toward the bottom of the tank. Prototyping enabled greater efficiency and faster time to market.

We ensured Worthington didn’t have to work with additional vendors during the project by:

  • Getting their custom color for powder coating
  • Laser-etching their logo into parts
  • Building, shipping, and following up to get feedback on all parts

The Results

Steelcrest Precision ramped up to produce around 2,500 parts per year for Worthington. In addition to making high-quality parts, we developed strong relationships with managers at the company and have helped them gain business in segments beyond manufacturing.

“Working with Steelcrest Precision is a great experience. Their experience and facilities mean they were able to assist us from initial prototype all the way through full-scale production.”
