Quality You Can Audit

ISO 9001 certified precision machining in Wauseon, Ohio

The System Behind the Parts

Anyone can say quality is a priority. We would rather show you the system: the certificate, the inspection equipment, the stages every part passes through, and the documentation that ships in the box.

Steelcrest Precision runs an ISO 9001:2015 certified quality management system out of Wauseon, Ohio, with inspection planned before the first chip is cut. Parts are verified on Hexagon CMMs running PC-DMIS, vision and optical measurement systems, and portable scanning, and every job ships with the documentation your quality policy requires: first article reports, CMM data, and material certifications. For aerospace and defense work, Steelcrest is ITAR registered with the U.S. Department of State and machines to AS9100-compliant processes while full AS9100 certification is in progress

IN PROGRESS

AS9100

We machine to AS9100-compliant processes today and are pursuing full AS9100 certification. Aerospace customers get first article documentation, material traceability, and the inspection record their programs require now, not after the certificate arrives.

Why Our Certification Matters for Your Parts

Repeatable, Not Lucky

A certified quality management system means the process that made your first good part is documented, controlled, and repeatable on the reorder two years from now, with the same setup sheets, the same inspection plan, and the same acceptance criteria.

Traceable Back to the Bar

Material heat and lot are recorded and tied to the parts they became. When a customer audit or a field question comes back, the record comes back with it.

Findings Get Closed

Nonconformances trigger a documented corrective action with a root cause and a verified fix, and internal audits check that the fix held. Escapes get closed out, not explained away.

How A Part Gets Verified

Every job is planned for inspection before the first chip is cut. The manufacturing engineer defines what gets checked, how, and how often, and that plan travels with the job.
01

MATERIAL IN

Incoming material is checked against the certification and the purchase order. Heat and lot are recorded before it reaches a machine.
02

FIRST PIECE

The first part off the process is measured against every print dimension and documented before the run is released.

First article as requested

03

IN PROCESS

Operators check to the frequency the plan sets, so drift is caught at the machine instead of at final inspection.
04

FINAL

Parts are inspected before they leave, including 100% inspection where your quality policy specifies it.
05

DOCUMENTATION

The inspection record, material certifications, and any customer-required forms are packaged with the shipment.

Inspection Equipment

Grouped by what it is used to verify, because that is how a print reads. Measuring envelopes are listed so you can size your part against our lab before you send the drawing.
INSPECTION TYPE

MEASURING ENVELOPE
WHAT IT VERIFIES
DIMENSIONAL & GD&T
Hexagon CMMs (2), PC-DMIS

The Lab and the Gauges Behind the Numbers

A measurement is only worth what the instrument behind it is worth. Calibration is managed under the ISO 9001 system, on a schedule, with records available to your auditor.

  • Measuring equipment calibrated at defined intervals against standards traceable to national measurement standards
  • Calibration status identified on the gauge, so nobody measures with an instrument that is out of date
  • Out-of-tolerance findings trigger a documented review of what that gauge measured
  • The same requirements flow down to our suppliers through the Supplier Guide

OUR SUPPLIERS MEET THE SAME STANDARD

Outside processing does not get a lighter standard than our own floor. The Steelcrest Precision Supplier Guide sets what our suppliers work to: calibration and traceability, raw material lot control, source inspection rights, and documented change notification. It is published, so you can see what we hold them to. When something does go wrong, nonconforming parts are segregated and dispositioned, corrective actions get a root cause and a verified fix, and internal audits check that the fix held.

HAVE A QUALITY POLICY YOUR SUPPLIERS HAVE TO MEET? SEND IT WITH YOUR DRAWING.

We will tell you exactly how we would satisfy it, and the quote comes back within 48 hours.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Steelcrest Precision ISO 9001 certified?

Yes. Steelcrest Precision holds ISO 9001:2015 certification for its quality management system at the Wauseon, Ohio facility. The certificate is available to download on this page for your supplier file.

Is Steelcrest Precision AS9100 certified?

Not yet. Steelcrest machines to AS9100-compliant processes and full AS9100 certification is in progress. First article documentation, material traceability, and CMM inspection records are standard on aerospace work today.

What inspection equipment does Steelcrest Precision use?

Two Hexagon coordinate measuring machines running PC-DMIS, a Micro-Vu vision measurement system, an OGP SmartScope, a Keyence IM-7030 image dimension measurement system, and a FaroArm portable CMM with 3D scanning, backed by surface plates, height gauges, and calibrated hand gauging.

Can Steelcrest provide first article inspection reports?

Yes. First article documentation is standard, with CMM data, material certifications, and a certificate of conformance provided when your requirements call for them. Send the requirement with the drawing and it is built into the job plan.

Does Steelcrest support 100% inspection requirements?

Yes. Where a customer quality policy specifies 100% inspection, Steelcrest builds it into the job plan and inspects every part before shipment.

How is inspection equipment calibrated?

Calibration is managed under the ISO 9001 quality management system. Measuring equipment is calibrated at defined intervals against standards traceable to national measurement standards, and each gauge carries its calibration status so an out-of-date instrument is not used.

What tolerances can Steelcrest Precision verify?

Grinding and wire EDM to ±0.0002”, precision turning to ±0.0002”, standard turning to ±0.0005”, and milling to ±0.001”, with surface finishes to 8 Ra depending on process and material. Tolerances at that level are verified on the CMM, not by hand gauge alone.

Can we audit Steelcrest Precision as a supplier?

Yes. Customer and third-party audits are welcome, and quality records, calibration records, and process documentation are available during an audit. Contact quality directly to schedule.
